Journey to Self is a film about female empowerment. The movie revolves around five childhood friends: Regina (Ashionye Michelle Raccah), Alex (Dakore Akande), Uche (Tosin Sido), Rume (Katherine Obiang) and Nse (Nse Ikpe-Etim). The story is told through a series of letters left behind by Uche, employs flashbacks and is heavy on dialogue. Raccah shines the light on suicide, domestic abuse, cross dressing, infertility and single parenthood among others. The soundtrack and scenic views of Lagos and Abuja helped to spice things up. The male characters would have done with more development to give the film more balance. Serious stuff.
