Title: In Iredu
Genre: Short film
Director: Abiola Sobo
Year: 2013
In Iredu is a beautifully crafted historic short film. It looks like a Macbeth remake, but it systemically explores similarities in folklore and literature thereby creating a sync between Shakespeare’s Macbeth and African myths and legends. On the down side, aside from the clumsy makeup of the witches, I can’t fathom why the diction is too ‘English’. Maybe the writer was carried away by the ‘Macbethness’ of the story and got sloppy with the diction. It is understandable for the narrator to have an impeccable diction, but that is not expected of three witches and a warrior of old from Africa.
