Award winning filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan has secured an international distribution deal with Netflix for his latest blockbuster October 1. With online sales kicking off in March 2015, the deal also covers subtitling in at least 10 languages with rights to sell in the United Kingdom and United States. The movie will be subtitled in Spanish, Portuguese, Finnish, Dutch, German, Danish and Norwegian. Established in 1997, Netflix is the world’s leading Internet television network with over 57 million members in nearly 50 countries.
The delighted filmmaker said, “For me , this is a dream come true. Yes, we make films but no credible and certified outlets for sales. No doubt, we are doing well here, a few premiere here and there. But this is an international deal. This is a big exposure and the beginning of a new era for African films.”
