Having recently wrapped up the activities marking the 11th anniversary of the Africa Movie Academy Awards, the organisers of the continental awards have called for entries for the 2016 edition of the global reward system for filmmakers of African descent all over the world.
Entries for the 2016 edition opened on October 10, 2015 and will be open till January 7th, 2016, according to the Director of Administration, Mr. Tony Anih. He enjoined film makers and their representatives across Africa to submit their works for the 2016 awards.
‘’We have given a three-month window to enable entries to come from all parts of Africa and from the Diaspora” he said. This, he further explained, will give Film Makers the room to accommodate for the logistics involved in sending to our Regional Offices in Ghana, Nairobi , Johannesburg, Lagos as well as via the Pan African Film Festival Los Angeles.
Film makers are expected to send in their works produced and or released between 1st December, 2014 and December 2015 for consideration for the awards. Such works, including full length feature films which should not exceed 120 minutes, must also not carry any commercial of any product or service.
For works produced in any language other than English, most especially where the language of dialogue is an African indigenous language, they must be sub-titled in English, according to Mr. Anih.
Speaking further on the awards, Mr. Anih noted that the acceptance of the awards, which celebrate professionals in the motion picture industry, has been remarkable across all regions in Africa, with entries coming from North Africa, Central Africa, East Africa, West Africa and Southern Africa Regions. This, he stressed, has allowed AMAA to become not only a continental brand, but the most prestigious award system in the Film Making Industry in Africa and the African Diaspora.
“We are proud of the work we have done with filmmakers across Africa in the last 11 years. We are certain that the future of AMAA and business of film making is very bright for African filmmakers. ” Mr. Anih said.
The Academy of Jurors also announced that Mr Shaibu Husseni, Chairman of the screening committee, will also function as President of the 2016 Africa Movie Academy Awards Academy of Jurors.
This decision was taken by the board largely on the basis of Mr Husseini’s long service to the jury. It will be his first as President of the Jury.
“AMAA 2016 nominations will hold on 28th Feb 2016 and the Awards ceremony will be held subsequently on the 30th April 2016. For full details on the entry rules and format of submission, film makers should visit our website: www.ama-awards.com ,’’ Mr. Anih enthused.
