EbonyLife TV is thrilled to announce that internationally popular show The Dating Game will have its African debut, thanks to a partnership with global content provider Sony Pictures Television (SPT). EbonyLife will produce the adaptation this spring, ahead of its planned premiere later this year. This collaboration is a significant milestone for African television and viewers will get to appreciate this hilarious format, which has been an audience favourite since 1965 and has aired in over 25 countries.
The Dating Game gives single contestants a chance to find love by asking three hidden suitors a number of questions. Whoever the contestant thinks gave the best answers is chosen and gets a chance to go on a date with the hopeful singleton. In the next episode, the audience gets to see what happened on the date and hear if the couple want to see each other again.
Mo Abudu, CEO of EbonyLife TV, is excited about the new television production. “We look forward to our global viewers enjoying this world-famous and highly entertaining programme, thanks to the incredible support from Sony Pictures Television. The Dating Game show is for anyone who is single and searching – it’s a fun way to meet interesting people and maybe find that special one,” she said.
Mark Young, Senior Vice President, UK, Iberia & Africa Distribution, Sony Pictures Television said: “The Dating Game has been a staple format in unscripted entertainment, enjoyed by viewers around the world. We are very excited for EbonyLife TV to be bringing the series to Nigeria in this landmark commission, and we look forward to continuing to collaborate with them on future projects”.
Such a globally significant collaboration is not limited to The Dating Game format. Audiences will be able to enjoy a variety of indigenous variations of international programming from EbonyLife TV in the coming months. The Dating Game is distributed internationally by SPT.
The news follows EbonyLife’s recently announced unscripted deal with SPT, where they will be exclusively adapting the hit game show The Dating Game for Nigerian audiences.
