Nigerian Filmmakers Can Now Submit Their Films For The 94th Academy Awards

The Nigerian Official Selection Committee (NOSC) for the Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), has called on Nigerian filmmakers to submit their films for consideration for the 94th Academy Awards (aka Oscars).

Films submitted will be considered for the International Feature Film (IFF) Award category, with the NOSC expected to present only one film for the category.

The IFF Award is presented annually by the Academy to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains 50% or more of non-English dialogue.

Past Nollywood films that have been nominated by the NOSC include Lionheart and The Milkmaid, submitted in 2019 and 2020 respectively. While Lionheart was eventually disqualified because most of the movie’s dialogue was in English, The Milkmaid scaled nominations but did not make the award’s shortlist.

The submission window for the 94th Oscars is open from September 20, 2021 to October 4, 2021.

In other news, the NOSC has announced Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde and Izu Ojukwu as new members of the selection committee.
