Sunday, 10 October 2021 will not be forgotten so quickly by everyone who attended the premiere of Jide Awobona’s new movie, Alábedé. From the colourful native wears worn to the reverberating gangan and bata sounds and riveting traditional dancers, a passerby would not be blamed for taking the event for a wedding or some festival.
Alábedé is an epic movie that follows the story of Abebunmi and her son, Alábedé, who both belong to an ancestral line of circumcisers. The film stars Jumoke Odetola, Antar Laniyan, Peju Ogunmola, Toyin Adegbola, Jide Awobona, Adeniyi Johnson, Oyebade Adebimpe, Jamiu Azeez, Peter Fatomilola and Abeni Agbon.
The movie’s premiere which was held at Viva Cinemas, Ikeja, was attended by Nollywood celebrities including Jumoke Odetola, Omolara Dada, Debo “Mr Macaroni” Adedayo, Tunji Bamisigbin, Olamilekan Shonaiya and more.
An exact cinema release date for Alábedé has not been revealed but the movie is expected to be in cinemas soon.
