Based on true events from the 18th and 19th century Dahomey Kingdom, The Woman King follows the story of Nanisca, general of an all-female military unit, and Nawi, an ambitious recruit, who together fight enemies who violated their honor, enslaved their people, and threatened to destroy everything they’ve lived for.
Amazing cast lineup for The Woman King include Viola Davis, Thuso Mbedu, John Boyega, Angelique Kidjo, Lashawna Lynch and of course Nollywood’s Jimmie Odukoya.
The epic movie will be produced by Cathy Schulman, Davis and Julius Tennon and Maria Bello. It is directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood.
TriStar Pictures is an American film studio and production company that is a member of the Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group.
The Woman King has been slated for a September 16, 2022 release.
