Prolific Nollywood actors Joke Silva and Kehinde Bankole have been tapped to play the role of Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti in the upcoming biopic titled Funmilayo: The Lioness of Lisabi.
Recall that Bolanle Austen-Peters announced in November that her production company, BAP Productions, had secured the rights to produce the biopic about the late activist and matriarch of the Kuti family, Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti.
While Bankole will be playing a younger Funmilayo, Silva will appear as the older matriarch.
Four of Funmilayo’s grandchildren – Yeni, Made, Kunle and Femi – are also part of the film’s cast. Other cast members include Omowunmi Dada, Ibrahim Suleiman, EjiroOghene Asagba and Patrick Diabuah.
The biopic is being shot in multiple locations including Lagos and Abeokuta and is expected to be released in 2022. Below are some BTS clips from the ongoing shoot.
