Tomisin Adepeju’s Appreciation Scoops Best Film Award At The S16 Film Festival

The debut edition of the S16 Film Festival was held last weekend, 10 – 11 December 2021, at the former Federal Printing Press, Lagos.

Twelve films were screened at the festival, including Tomisin Adepeju’s short film, Appreciation, which won the Best Film Award based on audience votes.

Appreciation follows the story of an African Pentecostal pastor who questions everything she believes after a life-changing event. The film was written and directed by Tomisin Adepeju, a Nigerian-British Filmmaker based in London. It features Tomi Ogunjobi, Tunde Bella, Femi Ogunjobi, Krystine Atti, Kemi Adekoya, Gerald Onuorah and Emeka Sesay.

Released in 2018, Appreciation has been screened at a number of festivals including the 2019 Africa Internation Film Festival (AFRIFF). Bagging the S16 Best Film Award is its first major win.

The S16 Film Festival is curated by Surreal16 Collective, a Nigerian cinema collective founded by Abba T. Makama, C.J “Fiery” Obasi and Michael Omonua. The festival aims to be a celebration of cinema as an art form.
