Being an adult can be difficult sometimes, so it’s always great to have a little fun and games to make things easier. However, it doesn’t always have to be you playing the games. It is okay to sit back, relax and enjoy a little competitive fun. Whether competitive singing, cooking or quizzing, these shows are always fun to watch.
Here are five of the hottest competitive shows you can catch on DStv this week:
- Nigerian Idol:
This is a reality music competition where contestants go toe to toe in musical battles to be named the ‘Nigerian Idol’. The show began live shows on Sunday, 20 March, and viewers are in for a treat for the next ten weeks. A new episode airs every Sunday at 7 pm on Africa Magic Showcase (DStv channel 151), Africa Magic Urban (DStv channel 153 and GOtv Supa channel 6) and Africa Magic Family (DStv channel 154 & GOtv channel 2).
- Who Wants To Be A Millionaire:
This quiz-styled game show is an iconic competitive show many Nigerians followed for 13 years from 2004 until it stopped airing in June 2017. The show made a long-awaited comeback on Sunday, 20 March, with beloved host Frank Edoho, still at the helm of things. The show is still as nerve-wracking as ever, and although there are a few changes in the reboot, OG fans will still find it delightful. It will run for 52 weeks airing every Sunday evening from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm on Africa Magic Family and Urban, Stv and NTA on DStv.
- Come Play Naija:
The season finale of this game show hosted by Hero Daniels will air this Friday, 25 March, at 10 pm. For most of the season, they have featured subscribers of DStv as participants. This Friday, all the winners from the previous episodes of Come Play Naija will get to compete. This means that 38 contestants will slug it out for the ultimate prize of a brand-new car, cash, and other exciting prizes.
You can still catch the usual Thursday and Friday episodes. They will air from 9:00 pm on Africa Magic Showcase (DStv channel 151), Africa Magic Urban (DStv channel 153 & GOtv SUPA channel 6), and Africa Magic Family (DStv channel 154 & GOtv channel 2). The finale show will air from 10:00 pm on Friday till the morning of Saturday on DStv channel 199 and AM Family (DStv channel 154 & GOtv channel 2).
- Chopped:
This is a cooking game show that airs on Food Network daily. The show usually has four contestants who compete in three rounds of appetiser, main dish and dessert until one person emerges as the ‘Chopped Champion’. There are two variations of the show – Chopped and Chopped Junior, and both are just as exhilarating. This is the perfect relaxing show if you love good food, intense competition, and mouth-watering dishes.
- Survivor SA
This game is like an elevated version of Gulder Ultimate search. Now in its eighth season and branded, ‘Immunity Island’, the show airs every Friday on ME (DStv channel 115) at 10 pm. The competition gathers 16 South Africans in an isolated location, where they must provide food, water, fire and shelter for themselves. The contestants will compete in challenges to earn either a reward or immunity from elimination. They will progressively eliminate contestants from the game with in-game votes until only one remains and is given the “Ultimate Survivor” title and be awarded the grand prize of R1 million.
If you like challenges, the jungle lifestyle, and a ton of drama, you’ll enjoy this show.
