This June, the Nollywood Studies Centre is hosting Ali Nuhu as a guest for its Filmmakers’ Forum.
Ali Nuhu is an actor, producer, director and scriptwriter. His acting career spans 23 years, beginning in 1999 with his role in the film Abin sirri ne. He is described as the ‘King of Kannywood’ but has also firmly established himself in Nollywood.
Ali Nuhu, who has a bachelor’s degree in Geography from the University of Jos, studied Film Production and Cinematic Arts at the University of Southern California. He also took part in a film training programme at the Asian School of Media Studies in New Delhi.
The films to his credit include Danadam Butulu (1999), Sitanda (2006), Dijanagala (2008), Prince of The Niger (2009), Wasila (2010) and Last Flight To Abuja (2012), Wani Hanin (2013), Matan Gida (2014), Ojukokoro: Greed (2016), Banana Island Ghost (2017), Mujadala (2018), Merry Men: The Real Yoruba Demons (2018), Sangaja (2019), Dear Affy (2020), Amina (2021) and One Lagos Night (2021).
In 2017, Ali Nuhu was made ‘Face of the Consumer’ for the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and is also an ambassador to Globacom Nigeria. Over the years, he has worked as a brand ambassador for other major brands such as Royco, Pepsi, and Blue Boat Champions Milk.
Ali Nuhu has won various awards during the course of his career. These awards include Best Upcoming Artist Award at the 3rd Africa Movie Academy Awards for his role in Sitanda Best Lead Actor in a Hausa Film for his role in Madubin Dubawa at the 4th Best of Nollywood Awards, and Best Actor in a Film at the 2013 Nigerian Entertainment Awards. He also won the City Peoples Entertainment Award for Kannywood’s Face of the Year in 2017, and Best Indigenous Language Movie at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards in 2018 for his film, Mansoor.
He is also the founder and chairman of FKD Productions.
