Oscars 2023: Nigerian Official Selection Committee Announces Call For Entries

The Nigerian Official Selection Committee (NOSC) for the Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), has called for submission of entries from Nigerian filmmakers for the 95th Academy Awards (OSCARS 2023).

The selection exercise, which will be undertaken by the NOSC, is expected to present one film as Nigeria’s entry in the International Feature Film (IFF) Award category.

The IFF Award is presented annually by the Academy to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains 50% or more of non-English dialogue.

Past Nollywood films that have been nominated by the NOSC include Lionheart and The Milkmaid, submitted in 2019 and 2020, respectively. While Lionheart was eventually disqualified because most of the movie’s dialogue was in English, The Milkmaid scaled nominations but did not make the award’s shortlist.

The submission window for the 95th Oscars is open from August 15, 2022, to August 31, 2022. For more details and to submit your entry, click here.

The Nigerian Official Selection Committee’s (NOSC) mission is to recognise and celebrate the art of cinema by showcasing Nigerian films and filmmakers to the Academy Awards and compete with other countries of the world for the Oscars award.
