Filmmaker and director Ema Edosio’s new film, Otiti, is to screen at the 2022 Festival International du Film PanAfricain de Cannes and AFRIKALDIA – Festival Vasco Cines Africanos.

In addition to being screened at the Festival International du Film PanAfricain de Cannes, Otiti is also in competition to receive a Dikalo Awards in the following categories:

Best Feature Film Fiction
Best Actor
Best Actress
The Nord Sud Development Association’s Dikalo Peace Award

The Dikalo Awards (meaning “message” in the Cameroonian language Douala) is” awarded by a professional jury for the best short and feature films (fiction), the best long and short documentaries, the Dikalos Peace Award, the best actor and actress awards.”

Known for Kasala! and We Tha Boyz, Edosio wrote, directed and co-produced Otiti.

Otiti tells the story of a seamstress with commitment issues who takes care of the ailing father who had abandoned her as a child while her half-brothers position themselves to take over his property. The film stars Chimezie Imo, Charles Etubiebi, Toyin Oshinaike, Tessy Brown, Obi Maduegbuna, Yinka Davies, Emem Isaac, Gina Castel and Toritseju Ejoh.

The Festival International du Film PanAfricain de Canne is “a platform that exhibits cinema and its professions, arts and entrepreneurship, as well as innovation, culture and events.” Founded in 2006 by Basile Ngangue Ebelle, this year’s edition of the festival, which is its 19th, holds October 18 to 23, 2022, in France.

AFRIKALDIA is “a competitive international film festival and a cultural meeting place for professionals from the audiovisual industry and the general public where they can share the cultural diversity of the cinematographies of the African continent and its diaspora.” The maiden edition of the festival held in 2021 with CJ “Fiery” Obasi’s Juju Stories and Akin Omotoso’s The Ghost And The House of Truth as part of its official selections. The 2022 edition of AFRIKALDIA will hold in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain.
