Filmmaker and director Toka Mcbaror has announced that the world screening of Underbelly will hold at the forthcoming 2022 Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival (TINFF).
Underbelly is a 2021 film by Evolution Studio 66. It tells the story of two friends who travelled from the western part of Nigeria to the north, hoping to find greener pastures. Things went awry when one of them fell in love with the wrong woman. Directed by Toka Mcbaror, Underbelly is produced by Tunde Aina and Chloe Coko. It features Femi Adebayo, Kunle Coker, Stan Nze, Conrad Smart, Chia Tiga, Maryam Booth, Nura Mc Khan and Mercy Kafiya. In addition to being screened, the film is also up for awards in 11 categories.
Toka Mcbaror is an ace filmmaker and director. His filmography includes Bitter Rain, Lotanna, Dark October (yet to be released) and Merry Men: The Real Yoruba Demons.
Underbelly is not the only work by Evolution Studio 66 that will be screening at the 2022 TINFF. Almajiri and The Takers are other titles by the company to be screened at the festival.
The Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival is a competition with live festival screenings and an annual awards event in the beautiful city of Toronto. It is a focus-oriented multicultural music and film festival, with an awards night to recognise and encourage filmmakers by appreciating, promoting, challenging and developing an understanding of equality, social justice, non-discrimination, diversity, and multiculturalism. The 2022 edition of the festival is scheduled for October 23 – 30, 2022, and will hold in Toronto, Canada.
