Nollywood week Paris Film Festival was created to showcase the very best that Nollywood has to offer.
The event which had a list of impressive films to showcase this year, was held from May 9 to May 12 at the Cinema l’Arlequin (Harlequin Theatre) in Paris, France.
This year’s festival was focused on the importance of telling our own stories, especially from a woman’s perspective. Acclaimed films like Kemi Adetiba’s King of Boys, Dare Olaitan’s Knock Out Blessing, BB Sasore’s God calling and many more were selected.
At the festival, Kemi Adetiba’s King of boys movie, won the Prix Du Public award.
The excited producer took to Instagram to say : “Now that I have slept, woken up and can confirm last night was not a dream, let me now talk.
WE WON, Guys!!! I’m still in absolute shock. I know it sounds cliché, but I wasn’t expecting this win. I had mentally removed myself and the film from any possibility of winning, and hearing my name and @kingofboysmovie being called as winner was surreal. @bankywellington and @topeoshinfilm had to scream at me to get up to collect the award. I FROZE!! I was in utter shock!!! We DID IT GUYS!! ALL THE HARD WORK from the amazing actors and the hardworking crew… WE DID IT!!! We took on Paris, and we WON. KOB is NOT a fluke or a one trick pony. People from different countries, in different continents, speaking different languages love OUR film. OUR little Nigerian film that could. To say I’m grateful is frankly an understatement. I have no words to articulate the feeling in my heart. It was even worse last night, so don’t watch any of the acceptance videos… I was a bumbling MESS ? Thank you to team @nollywoodweek for all that you’ve done this week, the hardwork you put into making this festival a reality against all odds, and including our film KOB in your festivities. I’m so grateful. What makes this award even more special is this – I have NEVER received an award physically myself. I have so many awards on my mantle-piece but I have never attended any of the ceremonies for one reason or the other, so kind folks have had to accept on my behalf. This is the first time I have actually been in the room and heard my name next to “and the winner is”. It is an indescribable moment. It had me in all feels. Thank you God. Thank you ALL OF YOU!! ?? ps. I was told last night, I am the first director in the festival to get two of these. The first I won for WEDDING PARTY 1 a couple years ago – again I wasn’t present. God is so good. God is so kind. I am so inspired to do MORE and win MORE for you guys. And as Banky says… #WeMove
