EbonyLife Studios Partners Sony Pictures Television On New Initiative, Àlọ́

In line with its “continent-wide vision to harness and grow Africa’s creative economy,” EbonyLife Studios has partnered with Sony Pictures Television on Àlọ́, a new writers’ initiative.

Àlọ́, a Yoruba word that means ‘once upon a time,’ is an international writers initiative aiming to discover up-and-coming writers and their unique story ideas that pay homage to Africa’s cultures, diversity, heritage and people.

EbonyLife Studios is not new to international partnerships, in particular, partnerships with Sony Pictures Television. In 2018, the duo announced a scripted television development deal. Both parties also announced an exclusive two-year first-look deal in early 2021. Àlọ́ is their third and most recent deal.

Speaking about the new initiative, the CEO of EbonyLife Studios, Ms Mosunmola Abudu, said, “We are really excited about our growing partnership with Sony Pictures Television; from our deal for three scripted series to our first-look agreement, and now the Àlọ́ Writers’ Initiative… It is focused on global storytelling that is authentically African and that gives African writers access to the biggest international broadcasters in the world.”
