It’s a new month/year and expectations are high as to what to expect from Nollywood. Will there be improvements or should we expect more of the same? We can’t say yet but we can share a list of movies to expect in cinemas this January 2022. They range from thriller to magical realism to romcom.

Rancor

Directed by Bola “Enigma” Akanbi and produced by Alesh Ola Sanni, Rancor is a tragic drama which follows the story of Dasola and his inexplicable hatred for his asthmatic brother, Murewa.

Cast lineup for Rancor includes Nancy Isime, Clarion Chukwurah, Mofe Duncan, Wole Ojo, Lateef Adedimeji, Bimbo Thomas, Daniel Oladele, Taiwo Adeyemi, Salami Rotimi, Yinka Salau, Judith Christopher, Alesh Ola Sanni and Hafiz “Saka” Oyetoro.

Juju Stories

After an interesting time premiering at different festivals across the world, the award-winning Juju Stories will finally be having its day at cinemas nationwide.

Juju Stories boasts of a three-man team of writers and directors including C.J. “Fiery” Obasi, Abba T. Makama and Michael Omonua. The three-part anthology film explores magical realism rooted in Nigerian folklore.

Produced by Oge Obasi, Juju Stories features Timini Egbuson, Elvis Poko, Don Ekwuazi, Nengi Adoki, Bukola Oladipupo, Belinda Agedah Yanga and Paul Utomi.

Juju Stories hits cinemas on 21 January 2022. You can watch the trailer below.

Dinner At My Place

Third on our list is this romcom featuring Timini Egbuson and Sophie Alakija. Directed by Kevin Luther Apaa, Dinner At My Place (DAMP) tells the story of a romantic dinner gone awry.

Other stars in DAMP include Yemi Solade, Debby Felix, Charles Etubiebi, Uche Nwaefuna, Bisola Aiyeola and Michael “MC Lively” Sani.

January 28 is the expected release date for DAMP. Watch the teaser below.
