Most people have this mental picture of childbirth as a happy affair incomplete without a grinning mother who is overwhelmed with joy at bringing new life into the world. But that is not always the case. There is the other side made up of tears, hatred, apathy from the mother towards the newborn which most of society ignores or is unaware of. This condition is referred to as postpartum depression (PPD).
Nora Awolowo and Ella Otigba decided it was high time people heard these other narratives and so they documented the stories of different women who have experienced postpartum depression in a documentary titled Baby Blues: The Trials Of Childbirth.
Directed by Nora Awolowo and produced by Ella Otigba, Baby Blues is made up of interviews with various women across the states in Nigeria.
