The Lagos Theatre Festival (LTF) is one designed to showcase and promote the presentation of theatre in unconventional spaces. Thespians and producers use this medium – the festival – as a means of expanding their horizons beyond the traditional spaces.

Lagos Theatre Festival was founded in 2013 by the British Council. At that time, the aim of the council was to foster collaborations, exchange and strengthen the Nigerian and British artists via the presentation of high quality theatre. As time went by, however, the running and management of the festival was handed over to an independent Board in 2019.

The theme for the festival for 2020 is ‘Going Out of Bounds’. It held, from February 27 to March 1, 2020. More than 120 events, drama, opera, dance, musical performances, concerts, spoken word performances, et cetera, held in various locations across Lagos. Artistes like Osas Ighodaro, Adedamilola Adegbite, Bikiya Graham-Douglas, Tope Tedela, Chinonye J. Chidolue, Rita Dominic, Judith Audu, and a host of others, were in attendance.

The LTF has waxed strong over the seven years of her existence. There have been shows spanning across multiple venues since its inception. After a break in 2015, the festival came back stronger in 2016. Since that time, there have been over 260 productions, 50 workshops and more than 420 shows. The physical presence at the festival is over 43,000 while the audience online is stated around 77million.
