Stella Damasus has been nominated in three award categories at the upcoming Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival for her role in Akwụna. The excited actor shared the announcement via her Instagram handle. The three categories she was nominated in are:
- Best Actress Overall
- Best Actress African Film
- Best Actress Short Film
The nominations do not end there, as Akwụna was also nominated in three other categories, making it six categories in total that the film is competing in. The three other categories are:
- Best Short Film USA
- Best Short Film International
- Best Short Film North America
Starring Stella Damasus and Tim Meadows in the lead role, Akwụna follows the story of Ebere, an immigrant woman who chooses survival above everything else, including herself. The movie is set in modern-day America and spotlights the harrowing things immigrants go through in the quest for survival.
Akwụna is directed and executive produced by Oluyinka Davids, and written and produced by Nnamdi Kanaga. The film is scheduled for a 2022 release, you can check out the trailer here.
The Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival (TINFF) is a competition with live festival screenings and an annual awards event in the beautiful city of Toronto. Now in its sixth year, the 2022 edition of the festival will run from October 23-29, 2022.
